The Color Within

Do not sit and judge me by the color of my skin…..
It is the path I choose to walk that bears witness to
within.
The Creator chose a shade of pale to paint my earthly
face.
But deep inside I bare my soul to a native side of
grace.

My spirit cries with thunder and my heart beats with the
drums.
The more I hear the river’s song, the clearer my path
becomes.
I walk alone in dreams at night and listen to the wind….
With the eagle as my guiding light and the buffalo my
friend.

The ones that walked the trails of past climbed mountains
and roamed the plains…..
They loved and fought and lived and died, cleansed
the land with their tear stains.
I hear their many voices blended upward, true, and strong.
It is in the midst of these sacred sounds where my true
heart does belong.

Look past the alabaster, through the eyes, into my soul……
In the end it is what I hold inside that truly make me
whole.
So do not sit and judge me by the color of my skin…
Just look beyond the shade of pale to the color that
lies within.
